THE FUNERAL SERVICE

The funeral took place on Friday 2 November2007. I have to say it was a most beautiful occasion. The hearse led by Steven Near was followed by the family, walking through the village. Betty looked in her wicker casket, decorated with yellow and white flowers and ivy. After the service she was buried in the church yard under a tree. Everyone was invited to throw fresh flowers in with her.

The tribute by Gini
She was the shepherd who guided her sheep. She was mother shepherd to her younger brother and sisters, and then married to become mother to her own children. But children were not enough. One of anything was not enough for Betty. She always had collections, be it cats, dogs, birds or spectacles! But all this was not enough to fill the need. So friends and other people who became friends were shepherded into the fold. Sometimes whether they liked it or not. But always because the shepherd thought it in their best interests.
She would give you anything, do for you anything, but and there's always a but.......only on her terms.
She was chief and hey don't anyone forget it. And as always with big chiefs they think nobody can manage without them, so they hate to leave their post.
This chief fought to the bitter end. 'Guiness book of records' here she comes!
But we can now all manage without her. She has given and taught us all so much. We are all the better for having known her. She touched something somewhere
